Privacy Policy

In short: the text you type stays in your browser. The site keeps a simple visit log, with no cookies and no advertising, for 90 days.

Is the text you type sent to our servers?

No. The Arabic keyboard runs entirely in your browser. The text in the input box is never sent to clavierenarabe.net, or to anyone else, unless you decide so.

The site applies a security rule (Content-Security-Policy) that forbids the page from connecting to any site other than ours. Fonts are served by our own site: no external font, analytics or advertising service is loaded.

Your text only leaves your device if you click one of these buttons yourself:

  • Google, YouTube, Translate and WhatsApp: they open that service in a new tab, with your text in the address. That service's own privacy policy then applies.
  • Listen: it uses the speech synthesis of your browser or operating system. Depending on the device, that voice may run locally or through an online service of the browser's maker.
  • Copy puts the text on your clipboard and Download creates a .txt file on your device: nothing is sent.

What visit data do we record?

To know which pages are useful, each page sends a short visit signal to our own server (address /api/t). It contains:

This log contains neither your name, nor your email, nor the text typed in the keyboard. Known search-engine crawlers are not recorded.

Our server also keeps a daily count of calls to that address, estimated from a sample of one call in ten. This counter only holds the date, the site name and a number: no personal data.

We do not use Google Analytics or any other external measurement tool, and the site shows no advertising.

Why, and for how long?

This data is only used to measure the site's audience, find pages that cause problems and protect the service against abuse. It is never sold, rented or used for ad targeting. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running and improving a free tool (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR).

Visit log rows are kept for 90 days, then deleted. Only anonymous totals (for example a number of visits per day) may be kept longer.

An IP address can count as personal data, which is why we treat the log as such. The French data protection authority gives the legal definition:

“According to the law, personal data means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual”

Does the site use cookies?

No. ClavierEnArabe sets no cookies, neither for analytics nor for advertising. That is why no consent banner appears.

The site does use your browser's local storage. This information stays on your device and is never sent to us:

If you install the site as a web app, your browser also keeps a copy of the site's pages and files (cache cea-v1) so they open offline.

To delete the draft, click Clear in the keyboard. To delete everything, clear this site's data in your browser settings. On a shared computer, remember to do it: the draft stays readable by the next person who opens the site in the same browser.

Who hosts the data?

The site and its visit database are hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, United States). Like any host, Cloudflare technically processes requests (including the IP address) to deliver the pages and protect the site. Data may therefore be processed outside the European Union; Cloudflare covers these transfers with the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and its certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. See also the legal notice (in French).

What are your rights?

Under the GDPR and the French Data Protection Act, you can ask to access your data, correct it, erase it, restrict its processing or object to it. Write to contact@clavierenarabe.net. Since the log does not contain your name, give the approximate date of your visit and, if possible, your IP address, so we can find the rows concerned.

If you believe your rights are not respected, you can file a complaint with the CNIL (the French authority) or with the data protection authority of your country.

Can this policy change?

Yes, if the way the site works changes (for example, a new service is added). The update date of this page then changes, and any new collection that would require your consent would only start after you give it.
